What is this - Postcrossing?

Aloitin Postcrossing-harrastukseni reilu 11 vuotta sitten. Äitini oli bongannut lehdestä juttua Postcrossing-yhteisöstä ja kertoi siitä minulle. Uteliaisuuteni heräsi ja päätin ottaa selvää tästä erikoiselta kuulostavasta harrastuksesta. Ja se oli menoa!

I started my Postcrossing hobby over 11 years ago. My mom had read in the magazine about the Postcrossing community and told me about it. That sounded interesting and I decided to find out more about this special hobby. And then... I got hooked!

Postcrossingin perusidea on yksinkertaisuudessaan lähettää ja vastaanottaa postikortteja. Liike sai alkunsa vuonna 2005 kun portugalilainen Paulo Magalhães perusti maksuttoman Postcrossing-sivuston internetiin. Sivustoilla on tänä päivä 727 047 rekisteröitynyttä käyttäjää 216 eri maasta ja postikortteja on vastaanotettu jo yli 47 miljoonaa! Melkoinen määrä.

The basic idea behind Postcrossing is to send and receive postcards. The Postcrossing project was created in 2005 when portuguese Paulo Magalhães founded a free Postcrossing site in the Internet. Today there are 727,047 registered users from 216 different countries, and more than 47 million postcards have already been received! Quite a lot.

Suomalaiset ovat olleet aktiivisia postcrossareita jo alusta saakka. Rekisteröityneitä käyttäjiä on maassamme 20,997 ja lähetettyjä kortteja 3,064,432. Suomalaiset ovat viidenneksi innokkaimpia Postcrossingin parissa - ohi menevät vain Saksa, Venäjä, USA ja Alankomaat. Syksyllä 2015 Suomi sai myös oman Postcrossing-yhdistyksensä, Suomen postcrossingyhdistys ry:n, jonka yhdintehtävä on edistää Postcrossing-harrastusta ja sen tunnettuutta Suomessa.

Finns have been active postcrossers since the very beginning. There are 20,997 registered users in our country and they have posted 3,064,432 postcards. Finns are the fifth most enthusiastic about Postcrossing - only Germany, Russia, the USA and the Netherlands beat us. In autumn 2015, the Finnish Postcrossing Association was born. The role of the association is to promote Postcrossing and its popularity in Finland.

Mikä tässä sitten koukuttaa? On kutkuttavan jännittävää tulla kotiin ja löytää laskujen ja mainosten alta toinen toistaan upeampia postikortteja mahtavilta ihmisiltä ympäri maailmaa! Ja se, kun saa ilahduttaa jonkun päivää pienen pahvisen postikortin muodossa. Kun oppii uusista kulttuureista, tavoista ja maista. Vielä näiden vuosienkin jälkeen olen innolla mukana 😊

Why is this so hooking? It's exciting to come home and find not only boring bills and ads in your mailbox, but stunning postcards from great people around the world as well!  And when you can make one´s day just in the form of a small card postcard. And when you learn about new cultures, habits and countries. Even after these many years I'm still excited about this hobby😊

Halpaa lystiä harrastus ei enää valitettavasti ole. Postimaksut nousevat hurjaa vauhtia, eivätkä postikortitkaan ole ilmaisia. Postcrossing kuitenkin antaa minulle niin paljon sellaista, mitä ei voi rahassa mitata. Se on elämäntapa, intohimo ja tärkeä osa minua.💖

Unfortunately, the hobby is not really cheap. Postage is constantly rising and postcards are not free either. Postcrossing, however, gives me so many things that can not be measured in money. It is a way of life, passion and an important part of me. 💖

Puolalaisen Ewa Słocińskan suunnittelemat Greetings from... (GF)-postikortit ovat suosittuja Postcrossareiden keskuudessa. Postikorteissa esitellään eri maiden faktatietoja, kuten postcrossareiden määrä, kuuluisimmat henkilöt, merkittävimmät nähtävyydet... Minä sain nyt Bulgarian ja Brasilian GF-kortit 😃

Greetings from... (GF)-postcards, designed by Polish Ewa Słocińska, are popular among Postcrossers. These postcards show facts about different countries, for example the number of Postcrossers, famous persons, the most significant sights... Now I got GF-postcards from Bulgaria and Brazil 😃

Myös Tsadista saapui epävirallinen, itsesuunniteltu GF-kortti! Postimerkki oli soma.

From Chad, an unofficial, self-designed GF-postcard arrived! The stamps was sweet.

Viikko alkoi hienosti, kun postilaatikosta kolahti mitä ihanampia aarteita maailmalta!

The week started great when I received amazing treasures from all over the world!

Suloinen yllätyksenä saatu muumikortti Japanilaiselta ystävältäni lämmitti mieltä. Etenkin, kun kortti saapui kuoressa, jota koristivat uudet Hello Kitty -postimerkit ja postileimat!

A sweet surprise Moomin postcard from my Japanese friend really touched me. Especially when the postcard came in an envelope decorated with brand new Hello Kitty stamps and cancellations!

Japanista sain myös kuusi upeaa GOTOCHI-korttia. GOTOCHI-kortit ovat Japanin postin julkaisemia, japanilaisia symboleja esitteleviä muotokortteja, joista jokainen edustaa Japanissa olevaa paikkaa (Gotochi=paikallinen). 

Symbolit voivat olla paikallisia ruokia, monumentteja, juhlia...

Jokaisessa kortissa on painettuna sen paikan nimi, josta kuva on peräisin. Voitko kuvitella: erilaisia Gotochi-kortteja on yli 400!

From Japan I also got six great GOTOCHI cards. GOTOCHI cards are postcards with Japanese symbols, each representing a local place in Japan (Gotochi = local), and released by Japanese Postal System. 

Symbols can be local dishes, monuments, celebrations ...

Each card has the name of the place where the image is coming from. Can you imagine: there are over 400 different Gotochi cards!

Täällä 29-vuotias sydämeltään nuori kaupunkilaisneito ja bloggailun noviisi.

Halusin jakaa kanssanne kaksi elämäni intohimoa: leipomisen ja postikortteilun. Taikinaterapia ja maailmanmatkailu kotikolosta käsin ovat tuoneet elämääni niin paljon ihmeitä, että miksen levittäisi iloa myös muille?


I am a 29-year-young urban lady and a newbie in the blogging world.
I wanted to share with you two passions of my life: baking and my postcard hobby. "Batter therapy" and traveling the world through postcards have brought so many miracles into my life. So why not to spread this joy to others too?
